CRAP Detect Untruthful News

These three articles briefly touch on fake news, bias and propaganda fueled news funneled out to the unsuspecting masses. Beginning with the first article by the New York Times, on the influence of reoccurring false content funneled continuously on popular social media platforms that are supposedly generated by a flawed algorithm. The rapid pace of the distribution of false information often times “outruns fact-checkers” in this platform which has resulted in mass production of false news. The focus was primarily on the flaws of social media whilst my second choice reflected on the evident bias displayed in widely known broadcasting stations and their anchors. Lastly, the work of a writer who has become the prime example of the lack of intellectual thinkers/readers we have in society who often fall prey to lies. Just amazes me how he was able to publish a dishonest article that influenced a legislature to propose a bill based solely on lies and not facts. This source however is does not have the same level of credibility as the first two sources so my initial shock wore off then came time to review my sources foundation.
My choices in articles not only focus on the topic but on the different sources, writers and underlying reasons fueling fake news. I have concluded that though it may be untruthful as adults we should begin to practice the intellectual standard because it probes into the credibility, reliability of the source and value of the content. It only has traction if it is shared so the only way to prevent that is to stop these articles immediately. The purpose of this assignment is to display the importance of analyzing and thinking in depth to be able to strengthen out built in bs-meters.  Though we are beginning to think with consideration of the intellectual standards. Are we going to continue to fall prey to false news because of our personal bias?

I also found a interesting article on patchwriting if it peaks your interest I encourage you to read it.

Also, this is the link to my Media Awareness playlist via YouTube.

  1. You had relevance when you talked about the three articles and the levels of credit-ability each website had. You did your research to figure this out.
