Reading with a Purpose

1
Our use of Social Media alters our perception of reality both on issues virtually and in real life. Posts, pictures and video are tools used to portray the reality that can be shaped in whatever way the user tailors to influence their follower’s perception. Often, messages that are posted and displayed are constructed posts that are meant to persuade the reader to see the issue through the authors reality.
Reality on social media is hard to differentiate because the image of perfection is often perpetuated by users who post carefully planned posts shown only in an alternate favorable reality vs their current everyday life. Social media makes on question as to whether the images, videos or intricate posts are the mirror of the user’s actual reality or that of what they wish it were to appease their followers or subconscious.

Reality on Social Media is subject to the readers interpretation of the reality. On public platforms content creators create “virtual realities” that may or may not reflect their actual real-life reality. In other words, we construct our images carefully to communicate our favorable reality to our selected virtual community. Whether the posts are made with integrity behind it is another discussion that must be made due to the assumption that the platforms are open to use whatever way the user chooses under the hope that they’re creating realistic posts.
Purpose of this assignment is to break down the “reality” often displayed on social media to understand as well as differentiate the honesty vs retrofitted posts to fit status quo. With this said Social Media is a escape for many people to use to connect with people around the world yet still poses the question as to whether that next amazing post you see reflects the users reality or is it just their virtual reality?

  1. Hi Sofa`i,
I'm questioning the clarity of your statement, “reality” often displayed on social media to understand as well as differentiate the honesty vs retrofitted posts to fit status quo, because could you please elaborate on what you mean by providing an example?
    Thanks,
    Greg
